Butterfly Tennis Club
Butterfly Tennis Club (BTC) in Camberwell, South East London, is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) who have created an exclusive children’s bursary fund program which has allowed many children and young people from ethnically diverse and financially challenged backgrounds, to benefit from free high-quality coaching and mentoring to enable and promote community access for all. The program is delivered by Head Coach Arum Akom, a dedicated and passionate advocate of community grassroots tennis.
Beyond Butterfly Tennis Club, Arum is working with the Ugandan Tennis Association to establish a tennis academy for children living in the slums of Uganda where his family roots lie. Arum’s vision and efforts have culminated in his concept “Project AA – Accomplish Anything”, which uses sports to motivate children and young people to believe that they can Accomplish Anything in life. He is also the founder of Black Tennis Mentors UK alongside business partner Jabilayh Asante, which aims to address the systemic barriers faced within their community, ensuring equitable access and support within the sport.
Arum’s hard work and dedication has been recognised by multiple brands and organisations worldwide, including Head and Tennis Black list, where he was the winner of the Game Changer in the Community Award in it’s inaugural year in 2023. Arum dedicates most of his time to training young junior players who aspire to become professionals.
Smash It will be supporting BTC and their children’s bursary fund program, helping it’s on and off court endeavours to give children and young people opportunities that they would not otherwise have access to. We look forward to partnering with BTC for the duration of 2025.
